Carter Beckworth

Carter's practice focuses on water law, real estate, business, estate planning and litigation.

Carter has assisted clients throughout New Mexico with a variety of business matters, commercial and residential real estate transactions, water rights and title issues.  He has litigated landlord-tenant cases and construction disputes in State District Court and represented both applicants and protestants of water rights transfers before the Administrative Litigation Unit of the Office of the State Engineer.

Carter is experienced in forming and advising condominium and homeowners associations, acequias, limited liability companies, corporations and partnerships. In his estate planning practice, Carter has participated in mediations and litigations involving complex trust disputes and contested probate cases.  Carter's clients have praised his focus on prompt and effective communication, as well as his knowledgeable approach to finding creative solutions.

A songwriter and former touring musician, Carter also has a hands-on background in the entertainment business, having negotiated recording contracts, live performance contracts, co-publishing and licensing agreements.  His interests include copyright and trademark law, creative writing, hiking and skiing. He resides in Santa Fe with his wife, Jillian, their daughter and two Labrador Retrievers, Gila and Slash.
